I always wanted to start a travel blog and review all these magnificent places I've been to, and although I always have great experiences traveling the world, no one place ever made me say “Oh my gosh, I have to blog about this!” like this one… this place that welcomes you with open, loving arms and fresh delicious juices… this place that seems like it is away from everything else in the world… this place who’s beauty is too remarkable to be captured by a camera… this place my family and I now refer to as “Paradise”… this place called:

ROSEWOOD MAYAKOBA

It was about a 45-minute drive to Paradise from Cancun International Airport. If you drive a little further, you’ll reach the heart of Playa del Carmen, but then you’ve gone too far… Their grand entrance alone is enough to transport you to a different realm. Immediately you have a different feeling as if you’re leaving the busy life behind. The drive is a few minutes long, not sure how long exactly because I was already in awe of the lush forestry all around us, it was like something out of a travel magazine, just more magical. We get to the welcome area, and as we exit the vehicle, our luggage was already taken out for us and we are handed this freshly made juice… I have no idea what it was but it was the delicious start to a heavenly few days. One thing I immediately took notice of was that they brought out a tray of these juices just for us… There were 3 glasses: 2 adult glasses for my husband and I, but also one small glass for our 6-year-old daughter. This wasn’t a popular kids place we booked near an amusement park… this was a 5-star Luxury resort that is popular for weddings and honeymoons, making me appreciate the added touch for their junior guest so much more. We went to check in at the desk as our luggage was taken to our room. Once we were ready to go, they escorted us just a few steps away to a small boat that greeted us with another fresh juice and some fresh fruits displayed ever so beautifully. We sailed through the mangroves, gazing in awe as we passed the different lagoon view suites and private residences that feature beautiful rooftop patios and hot tubs and private pools. We were even more in awe of the wildlife that we saw that called this place ‘home’. Gosh, how I would love to call this place, ‘home’, too!

Arriving at our beachfront suite was even more welcoming. Our butler, Marianna, informed us that the adorable bicycles with baskets out in front were ours to use for the duration of our stay, and that there was a beautiful nature trail to ride through. Once inside, the dining table was laid out with snacks and candy and a setting of ingredients used to make their special welcome drink. Marianna was a pro and mixed it just right using a special tequila that is made exclusively for Rosewood Mayakoba. Although I’m not a drinker, I couldn’t pass this opportunity up to try such an exclusive tequila… and it was so good!

Our room was spacious, airy and beautiful with everything placed efficiently and neatly. Our bathroom included his and hers sinks, a large closet, large separate vanity, rain shower, huge bathtub… and my favorite: an additional outdoor shower! Under the hot sun, a nice cool shower was heavenly… and my skin and hair absolutely welcomed it! There was also his and hers bath robes and slippers, but the best part was that there was a robe and a pair of bath slippers for our daughter, as well! The attention they pay to their junior guests is incredible!

There was a cute bag of toys and other goodies for our daughter laying on her bed, but just beyond that was the open wall that led to the beautiful turquoise waters with only golden sand, and a private patio with our own hot tub separating us. The blissful breeze blew through the suite with the sheer, white window curtains flowing ever so beautifully, giving us that feeling of… well… “THIS is paradise.”

I can go on and on about every waking moment of our stay and you will think this writing is simply fiction… There’s no way a resort does all that! But yes. Rosewood Mayakoba does. Here are just some other highlights from our stay:

- The SENSE SPA - Of course, you expect the spa services to be great, but the added touches before and after our massage made a huge difference. And this red juice and coconut jelly set beautifully on a small platter! It was the best thing I tasted in a very long time! Why don’t the other spas at home in Orlando do this? Guess we’ll just have to come back again.

- The FOOD – Rosewood Mayakoba grows many of their own fruits and vegetables right there, and so the food and juices are always so fresh. Every meal was delicious, and was accompanied by a different juice blend and it was all so delicious. I left there feeling like I got a really good detox, which was not planned but very much appreciated.

- The KIDS CLUB – Emma had great activities planned for the junior guests which our daughter really enjoyed. This allowed us to have some alone time, which we utilized at the Spa, or the Cenote, back at our hot tub, etc.

- The CENOTE – The resort is built around a cenote. It’s a very peaceful, quiet area which we enjoyed very much, with a quick nap.

- The MAYAKOBA COMPOUND – Rosewood Mayakoba is just one of four other hotels in the Mayakoba complex. Golf carts are used to get around through the resort, but can also take you to restaurants in the neighboring hotels. I found this to be very accommodating, opening up more dining options for us.

- The BUTLERS – Each suite is assigned to two designated butlers. We had Marianna and Daniel, both of whom were extremely hospitable and accommodating. My husband wanted a good local cigar and Marianna brought him a few different options within a couple hours. Marianna took care of us during the day, and Daniel had the night shift. Between the two of them, they assisted my husband is planning multiple surprises for me as it was my birthday weekend. We came back from dinner one rainy night to find a hot, candlelit, rose-petaled bubble bath, with more rose petals leading to it from the door. Our robes and bath slippers were neatly placed on the bed. They also planned a birthday dinner another night right on our patio on the beach decked with warm lights and a full table setting with menus (that included our names on it), soft music and great waiters. All this, including my “distraction”, was planned by my husband and the butlers.

- The LAGOON – As I mentioned earlier, there are many wildlife living among the mangroves around the lagoon and they take extra care in keeping everything as natural as it should be. There are monkeys, various species of birds, among other beautiful guests that you can hope for a glimpse of during their daily EcoTour by boat. The kids’ club also offers this every morning just for the junior guests.

Of course, there are so many other things my family and I love about this resort. We are absolute cruise addicts, and although we’ve been to many resorts around the world, I never had an actual “favorite resort”… until now. This is the place I have chosen to spend my birthday weekend every year from now on. This is also the place my husband decided he can’t wait for my birthday to visit again… so we already have plans to go much sooner than that. This is the place even our 6-year-old calls “Paradise”… because it is. It TRULY is. If you have been looking for your paradise here on earth, look no further than ROSEWOOD MAYAKOBA.
